The 2024 Chicken Drop has been scheduled for October 10 - 13, 2024. The next Operation Chicken Drop (OCD) will happen on Oct 12, 2024. We will fly formation training sorties starting on Thursday, Oct 10 thru Sunday, Oct 13. Formation training from the RPA, T-34 Association, NATA, the Stearman guys, and the RV guys, will all be happening over these four days. Everyone is invited. On Saturday we will conduct the mass formation fly over/OCD to the 5,000 locals who attend the event each year. The purpose of this event is to promote the airport in the local community. It is the biggest single day event in this town each year. We have local sponsors who fund this event each year. They provide you with discounted fuel prices (at the last event fuel was to be sold at the airports cost, I expect this to return), free smoke oil, catered high quality lunches/dinners on Friday and Saturday, an open bar each night, and many other amenities. Thats why the event fee is only $75 for a four day event. We got weathered out in 2023, but there 50+ airplanes committed to attend. This has become one of the biggest formation annual flying events east of the Mississippi. Sign up now to attend The Chicken Drop briefing will start at 1000hrs Saturday morning October 12th. You MUST attend the briefing to fly in the drop. You do NOT have to be FAST qualified to fly in the drop.
The event fee will be $75/person including guests. Almost all the other costs for us have been covered by donations from the local populace. At the last Chicken Drop in 2022 (2023 was rained out) the team spent almost $10,000 on food, drink and entertainment. We expect this year to be even better! We plan to have free smoke oil on a first come, first serve basis. We also have a new smoke oil wagon delivery system with an electric pump. There will be discounted prices on 100LL.
The hotel reservation block for the Fairfield Inn & Suites is $109 and rooms are very limited. Book now, you can cancel up to 24hrs before the event. Please call the hotel directly at 410-822-0050 and ask for the Easton Airport Days Pilot Rate. We will have a van with a limited number of runs back and forth to the airport. Again, book early as the number of rooms are limited. Other hotels are available in the area if this hotel is sold out but you are on your own.
